Paul told the Corinthian church that he had baptized none of them except Crispus and Gaius and was thankful for that because of the Corinthian church's tendency to divide into factions based on who baptized them.
The core of the text is Paul's assertion that such factionalism empties the Cross of Christ of its power. That is the focus of today's sermon.
