"We know that suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States," said Elizabeth Higbie, LCSW, a therapist with St. Raphael Counseling, a ministry of Catholic Charities in the Archdiocese of Denver. Higbie discussed risk factors that may include mental illness, depression, a family history of suicide, isolation, a history of abuse in childhood, unwillingness to seek help as well as barriers to treatment. Higbie also discussed potential warning signs of suicidal behavior and wrote an article on the subject, available here.
