“As night falls, a new day begins. A day…of unity. You belong to us forever.”
Suicide cult survivor Cynthia (Jennifer Rubin, of A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 3) wakes after thirteen years in a coma. Locked in a psychiatric hospital, she begins treatment by way of group therapy and with the guidance of Dr. Karmen (Bruce Abbott, of cult classic RE-ANIMATOR). Almost immediately, she sees horrifying visions of former cult leader Harris (Richard Lynch), who promises Cynthia that if she doesn’t return to Unity Fields, others will join in her stead. One by one, the hospital’s patients are killed off in grisly fashion, as Cynthia is continuously haunted by Harris, who promises to never let her go.
An underrated gem from the late 1980s, BAD DREAMS contains many strong performances and some pretty unsettling visuals. Long-time fan of the film Tony a.k.a. The Thunder from Down Under joins me for another commentary, sharing his thoughts on the movie and tells some fun anecdotes about how he first discovered it in an old Australian video rental shop.
