He is also director of Loyola’s Center for the Humanities, which supports humanities initiatives that benefit faculty, students, and the broader community. His book, Arguing over Texts: The Rhetoric of Interpretation, published by Oxford University Press, offers a rhetorical method for examining how people use argument to construct the meaning of texts. Research for his current book project, tentatively titled How the Bible’s Meaning Changes: Argument and Controversy in the Christian Church, has been supported by grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the International Society for the History of Rhetoric.
