Isn’t it frustrating to be stuck behind a tractor on an open stretch of road? You want to go faster, but are unable to speed up.
Most of us wish our metabolism would “speed up” so we would have the energy to do the things we want to do. The thyroid gland, located in your neck, regulates your metabolism. It is also related to all of the other hormones. (Estrogen, Progesterone, Testosterone, Cortisol, Insulin, Leptin and DHEA.)
We learned earlier that Leptin is the “Satiety Hormone” - the one responsible for telling our brain to shut the appetite off because we are full. However, Leptin is produced in the fat cells themselves, so as we accumulate fat, there is more and more Leptin trying to send this message to our brains. Our brains become “immune”, so to speak, to this message, so it gets ignored.
What is causing this over-abundance of Leptin? Rapid weight gain. What is causing that?
Here is a list that will probably contain some of your very favorite foods: Sugars and sweeteners, fried and processed foods, sodas, bread, and too much alcohol or caffeine - to name a few. Find a way to cut down on those things and help your metabolism do its job.
