This week on #TubtaNabadda, we focus on the ongoing constitutional review process (CRP) in Somalia. Given the importance of the CRP in reinforcing democracy in Somalia, the episode is linked to the International Day of Democracy which is commemorated annually on the 15th of September.
We interview Mohamed Abukar Subeyr, Director General at the federal Ministry of Constitutional Affairs on the role and importance of the Constitution in the overall architecture of democracy in Somalia, the number of proposals the ministry developed in relations to the ‘contentious issues’ - the allocation of power, natural resources, revenue sharing, and the electoral model.
He also discusses how national consultations and dialogue, inclusive of all relevant stakeholders, are important to the constitutional review process and the timeline for the adoption of a new Somalia constitution.
