In this episode I sit down with Matt from The Sacred Crafts. The Sacred Crafts is a one-of-a-kind Swiss watch micro-brand. With at least 10% of all ocean waste consisting of abandoned fishing material The Sacred Crafts came up with a brilliant solution to the problem by recovering valuable materials from the abandoned gear and reengineering it into the Swiss Watches you see above. They created their own custom bronze formulation from reclaimed marine propellers they retrieved from fishing boats. This bronze has been used to develop the case, bezel and crowns of their watches.
They also engineered a custom terrazzo compound from fishing nets to construct the links, crown guard and inner dial of their Swiss made watches. As of today there are no systems in place for removing any of the fishing waste from our seas and oceans and what The Sacred Crafts is doing is the first step on the road to cleaning up our oceans.
