EP183: Sam Chacko, BiVo/CoVo, and a Not So New Approach to Funding Ministry
Fun stat. 49% of Church Budgets, Pre-COVID, went to salaries. Payroll. Almost 1/2 of every dollar given went to pay an employee. (Almost 25% went to pay for the building, but that’s another conversation).
There’s a movement as of late. Are you seeing it? People are stepping back from paid church staff positions, but still doing ministry either through the church or moving to doing ministry more in the workplace. This bi-vocational/co-vocational mindset is anything but new, however during this mid/post-COVID season, we are seeing a surge in this mindset.
So what does it mean to be bi-vocational? Co-vocational? How does this affect how we do ministry? Does being bi-vocational limit or enhance how we do ministry? This may not be new thinking, but for many, this is crazy thinking… so let’s talk crazy with Sam Chacko, Lead Pastor of Loft City Church and Bi-vocational minister. Sam’s got the insight to what bi-vocational and co-vocational means, and how it could influence your church.
