Welcome back to ArtBeat Radio! You’re listening to episode 18 of Quarantunes, where quarantine can’t stop our creativity! In this episode, we hear not only musical expression from the artists at CECA, but get a small taste of Halloween with some costume recommendations! (3:57) “ Chinese World Music - CECA's world music class The group completed their untitled traditional Chinese piece by using samples of traditional Chinese instruments. This composition included the stringed instruments the pipa, and the ehru, the percussion instruments the tanggu and several gongs, as well as the wind instrument the hulusi. Students chose the tempo, the key and the arrangement for all of the instruments collaboratively. (7:31))“60s and 80s Hair”- CECA's Remix culture class CECA created this song by sampling music from the era of 1960s British invasion bands and 1980s hair metal, to create an Alternative rock song. Each sample was manipulated with student input, and students also chose the pitch, Rhythm and melody of the other instruments in the piece. (10:16) "Pop Song" - CECA's Remix Culture class Students chose to sample early electronic music from the 1950s and jazz from the 1990s in order to create a song with pop sensibilities. The tempo and placement of each sample was chosen by the students in the class. (12:31) "Funk Song" -CECA’s Remix Culture class Students in the class chose to sample the Childish Gambino song "Redbone" and "Take On Me" By A-Ha to create this song. Students made choices as to how the samples and instruments would be arranged in the song. (15:11) “Musical Disco” - CECA’s Musical Storytelling Class The group wrote the attached disco piece to accompany a clip from the musical that they are creating.
