He then became a White House fellow in Bush and Obama administrations as Director of Defense Policy and Strategies, followed by a career in the private sector.

In his book "Never Enough: A Navy SEAL Commander on Living a Life of Excellence, Agility, and Meaning"
he describes the lessons learned during his career about the importance of meaning and impact.

Profits from the book go to a 501c3 charity that pays off the mortgages of Gold Star families.
