Inevitable: A Classic Sci-Fi Podcast
TV & Film
The titles of these episodes are wack. Like who the hell says “shindig” anymore?
So I went to a party the other week right, and I was having a good time. Then all of a sudden I look over and out of the corner of my eye some lunatic just punches another guy in the face? What the heck was that? Anyway, I didn’t think too much more about it, I was only there for the free food anyway. It’s Shindig, written by Jane Espenson and aired on November 1, 2002
Show-notes:
1:22: I guess Vern Gillum just vanished from the TV world.
2:51: Here’s a CNBC article talking about Nick Cage’s curious… money problems, let’s say.
3:41: Here’s Nicolas Cage on why Nicolas Cage will never see The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. “It’s just too much of a wacked-out trip,” says Cage.
4:51: Here’s imdb’s custom Firefly viewing order (bro) in case you’re interested.
5:25: It has actually been exactly 350 days between this episode going out and our episode on The Prisoner’s final episode Fall Out.
9:00: In hindsight I actually think Wikipedia reproduces Book’s intro exactly but does not include any of Mal’s.
16:07: Kerr Avon and Roj Blake are characters from Blake’s 7, a show we podcasted about on another podcast, our Blake’s 7 podcast, Zenith: A Blake’s 7 Podcast.
45:18: This wouldn’t happen with lightsabers. There’s no link in this show-note, I just hadn’t written one in a while and wanted to say something “witty.”
46:35: I’m gonna assume that Kiyan is referring to this movie from 1989: Snake Eater. (Yes. Here’s a trailer for it.)
49:01: I should’ve cut this accent but I didn’t, hope you appreciate.
53:10: Methanol will blind you, that shit is no joke.
55:57: Seaweeds, for example, are protists, not plants..
56:25: I realized people outside of the US might not know this reference, so here’s Chick-Fil-A themselves explaining it for you. (Editor’s note: Chick-Fil-A has a corporate blog, huh? Truly, every day we stray further from god’s light.)
59:09: Here’s For a Few Dollars More, and here’s A Room with a View, the book. Apparently it was also adapted into a movie which might be more apt for the medium we’re talking about here, but I digress.
1:01:35: I can’t believe I’m linking to Doctor Who on a Firefly podcast but here’s the TARDIS wiki article on The Impossible Astronaut.
1:03:12: Don’t worry, I’m here to tell you who the hell Cyril Shaps is, for all our American listeners. I’m starting to realize that this podcast is 50% references American’s won’t understand and 50% references Brits won’t understand.
1:07:14: Here’s the Karate Kid poster I was talking about.
