In this episode of True Crime New England, Katie and Liz head back to Maine and talk about the absolutely devastating case of Constance Fisher. A young woman who had spent all of her life dreaming to become a mother and a housewife, Constance found herself married to a very nice man and having 3 children in quick succession. Unfortunately, a diagnosis of severe postpartum depression, which turned into postpartum psychosis, threw her mental health for a loop and one day in 1954, she drowned her 3 children and attempted suicide. After surviving her suicide attempt and spending 5 years in a psychiatric hospital, Constance was released into her loyal husband's care and she returned home. Not too long after that, Constance and Carl proceeded to have 3 more children, and one day in 1966, a psychosis fueled tragedy struck again. Tune in this week to learn about postpartum depression and psychosis and hear the tragic case of a woman who needed proper mental health help and just couldn't find it.
