In this episode of the Geektown Behind The Scenes podcast, I'm chatting with, not one, but two, composers - co-composers Jon Ehrlich and Jason Derlatka.
Jon and Jason co-scored Amazon Studios’ series 'Goliath', starring Billy Bob Thornton, William Hurt, Dennis Quaid, and J.K. Simmons, which launched its 4th, and final, season last month, alongside a new soundtrack album for the drama. The duo also currently score medical drama 'The Resident', which returned to FOX for its 5th Season in the US last month, and its 4th Season in the UK on Sky Witness.
Prior to those shows, Jon and Jason received two Emmy nominations for their work on Fox’s Emmy Award-winning and Golden Globes Award-nominated drama series 'House, M. D.', starring Hugh Laurie; and on CBS’s drama/thriller series 'The Agency', starring Beau Bridges. The pair's other co-scoring credits include NBC’s 'Parenthood' & 'About A Boy'; USA Network’s 'Graceland' and 'White Collar'; And Fox drama 'Pitch', amongst many others.
On top of all that, Jon earned an additional Emmy nomination for his work on Fox’s adventure/fantasy series 'Roar', starring Heath Ledger. Meanwhile, Jason tours with legendary Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band Journey on keyboards, backing, and lead vocals, and became an official band member in 2020.
In the interview we discuss their process for co-composing, finding the unique sound of 'Goliath', and how they approach the medical drama 'The Resident'. We also discuss working with the brilliant Hugh Laurie in 'House'.
