66. Borderline by Madonna (1983) with Gen Fricker
It's Leguizamo's first ever gig! Such a momentous occasion calls for a momentous guest - the hilarious Gen Fricker!
Madonna’s song “Borderline” tells the story of young love. The female protagonist appeals to her male counterpart to either end their relationship or “finish what he started” and commit fully to their burning passion. She grows increasingly frustrated, claiming that her love interest is simply making a fool of her, playing with her heart and keeping her a prisoner, while she continues to give everything she has to what seems like a love that is not reciprocated, yet also not truly one sided.
The music video to this song is about a group of young breakdancers on the street. A photographer approaches them and starts a chat with Madonna, but her boyfriend doesn’t like this! So he takes her to a rooftop so they can make out in their double denim. But then he is super rude to her and ditches her to play pool with the boys.
John Leguizamo is in this music video. We are not certain where. We thought maybe he was one of the breakdancers at the start, but when we googled it, apparently he is the skinny dude in the red shirt outside the pool hall. It’s hard to tell. I probably could have done a little bit more research into this, but there was an earthquake in Melbourne the other day.
