This is Peter King’s story from rags to riches. From poverty to CEO. From failure and low self esteem to contribution. A story of hopelessness to belief and purpose.
Peter King’s life can be divided into 3 clear parts which are so different in character and personality!
The first being up to the age of about 23 when Peter experienced fairly significant trauma, failure and poverty. He was living in a small village in South Africa when his father abandoned his mother with 4 young/small boys with very little money. Peter, being the youngest brother, learnt what it was like to attend a small village school with no shoes etc., live in a house without electricity, running water or even a bath room and leave school early and know failure at school and work. His first job was as an office boy.
The second part was when Peter managed - with God's help - to turn things around and ended up as Executive Director of the Van Leer Group of Companies with turnover of about $3 Billion USD and CEO of John Fairfax.
This in turn was followed in the last 27 years by Peter and his wife Pat deciding to give back to God at least something of his experiences by volunteering to move into the Christian Not For Profit sector in which he is still involved with. His aim was to move from success to relevancy!
