EP136. Jessica Sherk is a mixed Indigenous woman and daughter of a 60's scoop survivor. She recently completed her Master's in social work and is now part of the Indigenous-led, not for profit organization, Finding Our Power Together. In this episode Jessica shares her personal journey of connecting to her Indigenous identity which included searching for her biological family. Renee and Jessica also discuss the Indian Residential School System, generational trauma and, the lack of basic social determinants of health that many Indigenous communities across Canada still face today.
