Episode 051: How to Get the Most Out of Your Racecar Budget
For episode 51 of the Flatirons Syndicate Motorsports Podcast, Tasso from OTC Racing, Scotty, Nigel, and Jon have a conversation about one of the more overlooked but crucial aspects of taking your car to the track.
Budget.
It is no secret that the more you take your car to the track, and especially if you start to compete in one form or another, you are going to have to have some kind of budget. No matter what your budget is, the key is to work within that budget, and make sure that you are getting the best value for your money.
There are most likely a lot of expenses that you would expect for a track day or event such as tires, fuel, entry fees, and maybe brake pads. But there can be a lot of unexpected expenses that you can run into as well like towing costs, or parts failing that can add up quickly and take a big chunk out of your budget.
Is it more important to make your car fast? Or to make it more reliable?
Will you have a better season if you hit more events? Or is you spend more time testing and shaking down you car?
And as part of this podcast, we talk about our plan for our Pikes Peak race car. Do we build the engine? Do we put in a sequential transmission?
Or do we do both?
And what impact will those changes have on how we calculate our budget for an event?
