In Episode 98 of The Staffroom Podcast, Chey and Pav reflect on a task that ballooned into incredible Identity and Social Justice work in the classroom. Starting with learning about Bilquis Abdul-Qaadir, an American basketball player that fought international bans on wearing the hijab on the court, Chey and Pav were able to take their learning even further with the inclusion of live webinars for the class, and then furthermore, with the introduction of actual, impactful social justice work, initiated by the students and their outrage. This episode provides a very authentic and organic look at how learning opportunities provided by a district, school or colleague can blossom into the most meaningful and culturally driven topics of conversation, resulting in real change in the community and greater society.
