Society & Culture:Documentary
The O'Mahony family papers and artifacts from Kilmorna House near Listowel in North Kerry were presented to Kerry Co. Museum in October 2021.
Included among the collection is a hand-written letter dated 13 April 1829, written by Pierce Mahony who was working solicitor to Daniel O'Connell, at the House of Lords at Westminster, just as Catholic Emancipation was given royal assent.
Also included in the collection is a Visitors Book kept at Kilmorna between 1858 and 1898, and amongst the signatures is that of Charles Stuart Parnell, poet W.B.Yeats, writer and artist Percy French and revolutionary Maud Gonne.
Pierce Mahony's grandson, Pierce O'Mahony - The O'Mahony - was half brother to Sir Arthur Vicars, Keeper of the Irish Crown Jewels who was shot at Kilmorna prior to the burning of the house by the IRA in 1921. Included in the collection are letters written by Vicars and by Charles Stuart Parnell
