Enkindle: Family Scripture Reflections
Religion & Spirituality:Christianity
In this reflection for the Thirty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time, Kristen Fisher encourages us to remember that even in times of distress and tribulation, we are never alone in our suffering, and that we can trust in God’s goodness and in his power.
Jesus is stronger and more powerful than all of the distress and tribulation and suffering that has ever happened, or that will ever happen. Today’s readings remind us that yes, in this life we will experience suffering perhaps even great distress and tribulation, but we are never alone in that suffering. God has also sent St. Michael, along with his angels to do spiritual battle against Satan for us. Kristen tells a story of how Satan and St. Michael differed in their response to God’s creation of humanity, and that story should give us hope that we have a powerful ally on our side to help us fight temptations and avoid sin, which is the cause of so much pain and misery on Earth.
