Episode 22: Donald Demag

On this week's episode of True Crime New England, Liz and Katie find themselves back in Vermont, discussing the last execution to take place in the state's history. A young, unemployed father, Donald Demag, is short on money and having trouble providing for his pregnant wife and his child- so what does he decide to do? Well, rob and murder an elderly shop owner of course! After being sent to jail for life, Demag is itching to get out, so he executes an escape, only to be recaptured and thrown back where he started. Frustrated and tasting freedom, he seizes an opportunity with another prison mate and they manage to escape again. While out in freedom, the pair brutally beats up an older couple, killing the wife. After being apprehended, both men receive the death penalty and Demag becomes the last person ever to die legally at the hands of the state of Vermont.
