"My Uncle Phil's World's Largest ball of twine in Bundy, Minnesota, It makes me proud I'm American. I kind of misunderstood the assignment." Centennial S2 Ep 19
The newspaper announces that plans for new turnpikes have been approved by the Governor. This is great news for the residents of Walnut Grove, including the newest arrival Yuli Pyatakov, who has recently purchased farmland in the area. Not only is the news of the new infurstruture exciting but the Country's Centennial is right around the corner. Of course this should be cause for celebrating...that's until the letters start to arrive from County Clerk's office. Yuli's letter informs him he owes seven years of back taxes on land he's only owned for four months. While everyone is reeling from the news their own property tax has doubled and they have a road assessment charge to pay as well ( don't even ask what happen to the Oleson's) the kids in the area still want to celebrate the Country's upcoming birthday. And even after losing his land, Yuli and family are not lost, hurt nor angry...but thankful to live in a country where they can start over. With a new flagpole that will remind them of their Russian friend the Citizens of Walnut Grove are reminded how easily it is to take certain things for granted. When will these new roads be built? Will we see a growth spurt in the Walnut Grove area? How can it be 1876 when not so long ago Nellie was using her phonograph...which wasn't invented until 1877?
