Shame is never known to lead us toward positive change, yet it is an emotion that almost all human beings experience, and feel. When you work on practicing self-compassion and empathy you are able to unlock the antidote to shame.
In today’s episode, I am talking to Anna, a licensed psychologist with over 11 years of experience who works with individuals who have experienced trauma, intimate partner violence, eating disorders, body image distress, and anxiety disorders. More recently, she has started specializing in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder and is currently in private practice in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
During our conversation, Anna speaks on the idea of shame and the role it plays in our neurobiology, our life experiences, and how it can manifest physically. She shares how self-compassion can be used to combat the negative effects of shame, how to identify shame, and why showing up as your authentic self is the best way to foster mind and body connection.
