"It's a reason to get up in the morning. It's a reason to lose weight, to fit in the red dress. It's a reason to smile. It makes tomorrow all right." Soldier's Return S2 Ep 20
Walnut Grove resident and local Seamstress, Mrs. Amanda Whipple, and her son take center stage in this tragic Little House on the Prairie episode. Returning home after twelve years away, Granville Whipple has had many restless nights thanks to his time in the Civil War. But, he feels assured that coming home to be around his mom and the thriving community of Walnut Grove is the best decision he could make. Trying to get himself situated he offers music lessons and is making new friends around the area....and then bumps into an old friend. Actually, he runs into the widow and orphaned son of his best friend who happened to have left years ago with Granville to enlist in the war. This unfortunately starts a chain of events that lead Granville down a dangerous path. Overnight, the gentle man we are introduced to at the beginning of the episode turns into a desperate, unsettled and vexed individual who is fighting a dangerous crave. And while friends and family are present to try to help Granville in anyway they can, the help Granville wants is only present as a certain white powder. Will This Mother and Child reunion be enough to help Granville regain some sort of normalcy? Should Laura reconsider her choice in regards to the musical instatement she wants to learn? This is Little House....so where is the happy ending?
