At the close of every year there is a lot of outward activity in making plans, scheduling, preparation and stress. However, I have always experienced an inward solemness in my spirit. A quieting down happens. I begin to go over the year in my mind and heart. Thinking about all the highs and lows, the losses, tears, joys and sorrows. Which then propels me into the thoughts of what next year is going to look like, or what will happen. I know I am not alone.
This morning I read Numbers chapter 33 that recorded the entire journeying of the children of Israel until they all inherited the promised land. I saw that it was a record meticulously kept for a reason. I felt that in a way, I was seeing my own life from the day I was born to inheriting heaven in the future. I felt strangely comforted by that long record. Because God made sure that we see Him not only in their very long hard and challenging journey, but that we see Him in ours too. And not only here on earth, but later in heaven I think, as meticulous records will have been kept about our journeys.
As I went through a great internal storm that lasted for 3 nights, I heard the words of the Lord speaking deep within my heart, "Follow Me." I knew it was Him. That was all that needed to be said, and again, I was uniquely and strangely comforted. Because within those two words were the solid foundation of knowing that all is taken care of, and that He is already up the road. I will meet Him there in time to come. Even in the coming year of the good and bad, the highs and lows, as long as we are following Him, "surely goodness and mercy will follow us all the days of our lives, and we will dwell in His house forever." Amen.
The Lord bless all of you in the coming circling year, and grant unto you that you will be like great fruit bearing trees planted by His own hands at the waters edge of the rivers of living water. The Lord causing you to prosper, being in good health, and in the strength of His joy and purpose.
"But God is the God of the waves and the billows, and they are still His when they come over us; and again and again we have proved that the overwhelming thing does not overwhelm. Once more, by His interposition, deliverance came. We were cast down, but not destroyed.
