12/31: Colorado wildfires put thousands in danger with at least 7 hurt. Pres. Biden warns Putin about serious costs if Russia invades Ukraine.
Relentless Colorado wildfires are putting thousands of people in danger and at least seven are hurt. More than 600 homes have burned, along with a shopping center and a hotel. Meanwhile, tens of thousands of people have been evacuated from their homes. The latest surge in the coronavirus--fueled by the Omicron variant--is officially the fastest moving we've ever seen. For the first time since the pandemic began, new COVID cases have now surpassed an average of one million a day worldwide. In the U.S., almost half a million new cases were reported yesterday and over one thousand hospitals nationwide say they now have critical staffing shortages. Colorado's governor has commuted the prison term of a truck driver convicted in a deadly accident from 110 years to 10 years. President Biden warned Russian President Vladimir Putin yesterday there would be serious costs if his army invades Ukraine. U.S. and Russian diplomats are scheduled to meet in Switzerland on January 10th for more negotiations.
