If you were anywhere around the internet — or the woods, for that matter — in the late summer and early fall of 2016, you probably remember that clowns became a weirdly big deal. It all started when a group of kids claimed to see clowns behind their apartment complex in Greenville, South Carolina, trying to lead them to an abandoned house in the woods. Seems like an isolated incident, right? But when news of the clowns broke, clown sightings started popping up everywhere. 

So, were the forests really teeming with clowns in 2016? The answer is yes, no, and maybe so.
