Early Prostate Cancer: Dr. Mistry On Different Factors That Affect Treatment Approaches
Thanks for tuning in to the Armor Men’s Health Hour Podcast today, where we bring you the latest and greatest in urology care and the best urology humor out there.
In this segment, Dr. Mistry and Donna Lee respond to a listener who asks: "Dr. Mistry, what, in your opinion would be the best treatment for prostate cancer for a 58 year old man in stage 2?" Dr. Mistry explains that a prostate cancer diagnosis, while scary for many men, doesn't necessarily require aggressive treatment. Every case of prostate cancer must be evaluated based on not only the cancer itself as well as the age, health, and lifestyle of the man who has it, but also based on the patient's life goals. There are a range of treatment modalities available for treating prostate cancer. The more invasive the treatment, the more likely the patient is to have undesirable side effects, like erectile dysfunction or incontinence. High Intensity Focused Ultrasound is a less-invasive but incredibly effective way to treat localized prostate cancer, but it isn't appropriate in every case. For some men with a stage one or two prostate cancer, active surveillance can be the right approach. For others, the perceived threat of early death is enough to warrant more aggressive treatment. No matter your outlook, our team at NAU Urology Specialists will ensure you have a treatment plan that's right for your individual needs. If you have recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer or are looking for a second opinion on cancer treatment, please give us a call today!
Dr. Mistry is a board-certified urologist and has been treating patients in the Austin and Greater Williamson County area since he started his private practice in 2007.
