Bio
Una ni Fhlannagin, from Co. Galway, Ireland, is an
accomplished young Irish harpist, singer, and
traditional musician. A prizewinner at the Galway
Fleadh, Connacht Fleadh and Granard Harp Festival, her
style is rooted in diverse musical influences suchas
the dance music tradition of East Clare, the sean-ns
singing style of Connemara, and the music of the early
harpers. Only 22, she's played for presidents, prime
ministers, and internationally-renowned artists, and
given solo recitals all over Ireland and in America.
Usually performing with her father, the well-known
musician and singer John Flanagan, she's also played
with renowned artists Paddy Fahy, Dordan, Alec Finn,
Oisn Mac Diarmada and Eileen Gannon. In the summer of
2004 she was awarded the prestigious 2004 artistic
residency at Central Missouri Celtic Arts Association,
and was performing and teaching in that capacity for 3
months. She was also the recipient of a major
scholarship for Wesleyan University, Connecticut,
where she studied composition and played with the
legendary free jazz musician and composer, Anthony
Braxton. In 2005, she won the Galway Fleadh Senior
Harp Competition, came second place in the Granard
Harp Festival, and received first class honours in her
B.A. Arts-Music from U.C.C.and topped it all off by
performing at the Ninth World Harp Congress and the
anniversarial Milwaukee Irish Fest 2005. At the
moment, she is completing a postgraduate degree in
Music Education at the Irish World Music Centre, in
the University of Limerick.
