#34 Jeffrey Lewis Homicide Detective Miami RET
#34 Jeffrey Lewis Homicide Detective Miami RET, Upon graduating high school in 1976, I enlisted in the USAF, where Jeffrey received Law Enforcement/Base Defense training. For His first two years, He was assigned law enforcement and gate guard duties. For my last two years, He was selected to the SPI section as an investigator. He was also assigned to the SPECS Unit where He was an M-60 Gunner. Jeffrey was assigned to Homestead Air Force Base during my tenure. In October 1980, upon being Honorably discharged, He was hired by the Miami Dade Police Department.
He was assigned to the Central District which incorporated the Liberty City Area. He was a Uniform Officer until He was selected to the Crime Suppression Team. One of our duties was to identify and arrest Jamaican Drug dealers. During one of our entries into a drug den, a firefight ensued. Jeffrey and another detective sustained GSW’s. After my two-year tenure there He was selected to be a Robbery Detective.
While assigned to the Robbery Unit, He investigated thousands of robberies. Some of my highlighted cases were as follows: Dismantling three major Tourist Robbery Gangs, a Nationwide Jewelry Store Smash and Grab Drug Gang, Bank, and Armor Car Robbery Gangs, Multiple Home Invasion Robbery Gangs, including Police impersonation gangs. A Gang who had robbed Aerothrust, a major jet engine repair station, for over a million dollars worth of Jet Engine Airplane Parts. All of these cases were closed and the perps went to prison.
Jeffrey finished His last 13 years in Homicide. He investigated the Booby Boys Gang, multiple Police Shootings and Homicides, the killing of a 5-year-old African American Girl who was murdered during a Martin King Holiday Celebration, and a Home Invasion Group which included a Navy Seal Instructor who was killed. These cases were all closed.
During His tenure as a Robbery and Homicide Detective, Jeffrey worked closely with various Federal Agencies on many Task Forces, and with most local agencies in the TRI County Area of Miami-Dade. His last assignment was to combine forces with multiple local, state, and federal agencies in stemming the tide of violent crimes including shootings and multiple homicides which were being committed by warring gang factions in the North End of Miami-Dade County. He retired honorably in 2010 after a 30-year tenure.
Today, Jeffrey volunteers with the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, investigating Cold Case Murders.
He also conduct a Gang Related Homicide Course.
