This week on #TubtaNabadda, we reflect on the main events that shaped Somalia in 2021 and hear some of our most interesting radio interviews.
In the first segment of the show, you will listen to soundbites by Adam Abdelmoula, United Nations Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Somalia, who also serves as the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, about the dire humanitarian situation in Somalia. In this interview conducted in February last year, Mr Abdelmoula also discussed the impact that the drought, locust invasion and floods were having on the livelihoods of communities across Somalia.
The second segment will feature the historic elections conducted in three districts in Puntland. Voters in the districts of Ufeyn, Qardho and Eyl cast their votes in October last year in what is considered to be a positive step towards the realization of one-person, one-vote elections in Somalia. We interviewed Maryan Abdi Mohamed, a civil society activist in Puntland, about the importance of these elections.
And, finally, we look into the rights of persons with disabilities in Somalia and how the UN supports initiatives that promote these, as well as the achievements so far registered in this area. You will listen to Kirsten Young, UNSOM Chief Human Rights Officer, as she discusses what needs to be done to raise awareness on disability rights.
