Ah...wanderlust.
There is nothing quite like ambling along in your car, on a bicycle, or on foot along an unfamiliar country lane. No agenda, no rush to arrive anywhere on time, just letting your wheels spin and enjoying the scenery.
What are we really searching for, when we set off on a sunny day with no particular destination in mind? What are we hoping to find, when we leave behind maps and clocks and venture forth into the great wide open?
Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
The inclination to wander, search, and seek are not an accident. Our natural curiosity, and our desire to go further to find out what’s at the end of an enticing stretch of road in the countryside (and in life), are gifts from our Creator.
God, in His infinite wisdom, designed us to yearn for more. Sometimes that search leads us down sunny country lanes, and sometimes our paths take a darker turn, but His Word, the Bible, instructs us to seek first His kingdom and His righteousness — and when we do, He promises to give us everything we need.
God will take care of us along the journey.
Let’s pray.
Lord, thank you for creating in me a divine curiosity. Help me use this desire to know more in a way that honors you, and furthers your kingdom. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
