Do you ever feel like life is a 24/7 chore? That it’s just hard work and very little joy, to the point that you can’t go on? Unfortunately, that’s a common theme for many — but as we explore our series this week, “Friend,” here’s a suggestion:
Seek out a person who knows you and loves you. Someone you’ve clicked with, and you have the memories to prove it.
In other words, a true friend.
Proverbs 17:17 says, “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.”
Notice from Scripture that the traits a friend possesses are to love no matter the circumstances, and that he or she is made for walking you through a trial.
Now, you might say, ‘I don’t have even one friend.’ Okay, maybe that’s technically true, and you struggle to name or think of one person you can turn to. It’s actually at that point you are on your way to a solution.
Jesus is the foundation of Proverbs 17:17. It is Jesus Christ who reaches out to you all the time, and is always waiting to calm you. Honestly? He is much, much stronger than even our best friends. Infinitely so.
Tell Jesus today that you’re going through a tough time, and you need Him for the long haul. Rely on Him. Pray. Pour out your heart.
That’s when you’ll learn that living life doesn’t have to be hard work with no break.
Let’s pray.
Lord, thank you for bringing us comfort and rest when we see Jesus for who He is. Amen.
