A Brief History of the War Against Islamic State
Combined Joint Task Force—Operation Inherent Resolve, more commonly known as the war against Islamic State, was America’s most successful war that no one really thinks about anymore. It did not, like Afghanistan, drag on for two decades (yet). Unlike Iraq, the Coalition achieved its stated goals, and unlike America’s various shadow wars, it’s fairly easy to piece together what happened.
Here to help us tell the tale of the war is Aram Shabanian, a graduate student of Non-Proliferation and Terrorism Studies at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey. He also runs The Fulda Gap, a site dedicated to using OSINT to understand modern war.
