The first question asked was how can meditation be a form of imagination?
Om Swami says that in the audible series released ‘jeevan aik gorakh dhanda hai’ ( life is a complicated business), he had said that to do meditation one needs imagination. For, when we meditate on a form we are imagining a form in our consciousness and keeping it alive. Till one is able to keep the form alive in one’s consciousness, one will be able to maintain pristine concentration. The moment the form disappears from their consciousness the concentration gets disturbed too. He says, he had read somewhere something very beautiful that said ‘ everything is information.’ Whatever one does, sees, tastes, smells, hears - all of them is information for the brain. How this information gets interpreted by an individual will make them feel good, bad or neutral. A person on anesthesia cannot imagine, as the brain does not receive input from the senses. All the progress made in all the fields is due to only someone’s imagination. Whether it was the moon landing, computers or mobile phones, everything started with someone imagining the possibilities. Similarly, in meditation, the clearer the imagination, the more intense will be the concentration and the more intense the concentration the more vivid the imagination will be. The more intense the concentration the more developed will the knowledge be. This is because if one’s concentration is not one-pointed then they will spend their whole life in only remembering past incidents. Though, they may be aware that thoughts are meaningless, they are still unable to discard them, as they have not entered the sea called meditation. A person working in a laboratory is also busy in imagination. Imagination is the very key to spiritual advancement. Imagination starts with the question ‘what if’ and that prods one on. Om Swami says, after taking all this into consideration he had said that meditation is also a form of imagination.
The second question was, what happens if a person walks the spiritual path without any goals.
Om Swami says that a person who can do this is very lucky. If a person has set goals to achieve, then that person will just want to complete it without enjoying the journey. Whereas, a person who starts the journey thinking let’s see where this takes me will enjoy the journey without stress. A person who has a set goal and wants to reach that somehow cannot be saved as their whole life will only be about that. They will not be concerned about their family or relationships, they would not want rest or anything. They will become just become a nuisance and will trouble all. He says, so, even in the spiritual path if one has goals in mind then they would not enjoy the journey. Whereas, if one walks the path with a liberated and adventurous outlook, the path becomes very beautiful.
