The Exam Room by the Physicians Committee
Health & Fitness:Nutrition
Millions are living with the painful symptoms of Crohn’s disease, but they may find relief by eating a vegan diet.
On this episode of The Exam Room™ podcast, Dr. Alan Desmond talks about the global surge of Crohn’s disease that occurred as more and more people began eating the high-fat, high-calorie, and highly processed standard Western diet. Moreover, he and "The Weight Loss Champion" Chuck Carroll discuss the way in which a plant-based diet can reverse the unhealthy trend and possibly even the diagnosis of Crohn’s! Dr. Desmond also delves into the science behind how a high-fiber diet creates a healthy environment in the gut and shares some successful cases of patients with Crohn’s who have seen dramatic improvements.
Chuck also examines how COVID-19 can affect the heart when he is joined by Dr. Columbus Batiste. The pair discuss new studies showing the ways in which the virus can cause inflammation of the heart muscle and lining as well as the possibility that the damage will be permanent.
Plus, Dr. Batiste talks about The Slave Food Project, which explores the “weaponization of food in the creation of health disparities in African American communities irrespective of income.”
Dr. Desmond will be speaking at the International Conference on Nutrition in Medicine.
