On this episode of the HCP, Drew welcomes guest Pastor and Counselor Adam Thomas. Adam is the Preaching/Teaching Pastor at Wyatt Road Baptist Church in El Dorado, AR and is also a Biblical counselor. The conversation today is around the role of pastor as a counselor for his people in the church, the role of the body as they care for one another, “Bearing one another’s burdens, etc..”, and if there is ever a time to go outside of the purview of care in the church.

Many pastors in the public spotlight have fallen recently either in suicide or moral failure and Adam and Drew discuss how to avoid those things though awareness and honest relationships. 

 There is a need for pastors to own the responsibility to care for the souls of their people through counseling and connecting them to people in the body of the church where they can process life struggles and disappointments. Perhaps we need to better our understanding of how to counsel and helping create a culture in our churches where people can be honest about what they’re struggling with and working through.
