Step Five
“Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.”
A difficult but necessary part of sobriety and peace of mind, this step introduces us to honesty, openness, and willingness in action. We begin to shift our relationships with God, other people, and ourselves. We chip away at our sense of isolation, receive forgiveness and learn how to give it. We gain honesty and realism about ourselves and learn about humility and the danger of rationalization.
Welcome to the Sunday Morning Sobriety Series! Many of you have reached out to me with questions about physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional sobriety. And so I thought that I would add a mini-episode every Sunday morning to explore aspects of sobriety and all the different modalities and practices that we have come to know about healing and recovery from any kind of addiction.
I am by no means the final word on sobriety and recovery, but I am happy to share what I know, keep the conversation open, and stay curious and teachable. So whether it is sobriety from drugs, alcohol, or behaviors that are impacting your ability to function like gambling addiction or sex addiction, whether you are curious about mental and emotional sobriety from people places and things, or you identify as an adult child of an alcoholic, addiction, or dysfunctional family, this space on Sunday mornings is for you.
