The only thing MORE important than what goals you're setting is HOW you're setting them. In this 3 part series on goal setting, we go over how to set realistic goals, and how to subsequently execute on the RIGHT ones. I was taught this by my business coach, friend, and mentor Mathew Park, and now I want to pass his wisdom on to you.
4) Do a balance assessment - When you out too much emphasis on just one or two areas in your life, you can become warped. As you review your list, determine if it relates to one of the 8 areas in your life: physical, emotional, spiritual, relationships, financial, business, family, and adventure.
5) Explore your reasons - Will reaching this goal make me happier?
Will reaching this goal make me healthier?
Will reaching this goal make me more prosperous?
Will reaching this goal make me more secure?
Will reaching this goal make me more friends?
Will reaching this goal give me peace of mind?
Will reaching this goal improve my family relationships?
6) Stretch process - Long range goals get an L. Short term goals get an S. So… a trip in the future, a house, making your first million dollars, etc. Those won’t happen tomorrow. They require a process. Or ongoing/short-term goals: Health, Business, Spiritual, Relationship, Financial (just making money a little every day). Evaluate whether your goals are short or long term.
Next week we'll go over steps 7 through 9
