The Thing In The Mines - “Nobody Expects You To Be Made of Steel On the Inside”
EPISODE 3 - “Nobody Expects You To Be Made of Steel On the Inside.”
Greetings Super friends! Welcome to Superman & Lois & Pals. I’m Henry Bernstein and alongside me is my favorite super pal, Professor Sam Brody.
Let’s talk about Superman and Lois Season 2 Episode 3
S02E02 - “The Thing In The Minds”
Directed by Gregory Smith
Written by Katie Aldrin and Juliana James
Lois reaches out to her father Sam to get help sneaking John into the mines to figure out what it's connection is to Clark's visions. Clark suffers outbursts of endangering those close to him. Meanwhile, Lana has second thoughts about running for mayor, while Jon and Jordan have to consider what they've learned about their girlfriends.
Lois: Obviously we have to talk about the big reveal/swerve but I’m actually at this moment slightly more interested in the big Lois reveal. First of all I love the idea that Lois exposed a cult that her sister was involved in and now she’s going to get her own villain that wasn’t previously in the comics and seems scary etc. I really really like the idea of Lois having a dangerous/unbeatable adversary that isn’t Lex Luthor (even though I’m ready for Cryer’s Luthor). I’m a little confused about the timeline. Did all this happen after Lucy appeared on Supergirl? Are we to understand that Lucy is currently in the cult? And that the expose didn’t lead to Ally Allston’s arrest? It seems like they are borrowing a lot from the NXIVM cult. Do you think this is either a shot or a reference to that explicitly because of Allison Mack/Chloe Sullivan? Very interesting Superman connection there. Loving Sam’s babyface turn and actually apologizing. This is not the Sam Lane we know from the comics.
Sorry but the teenage “I love yous” is just so hard to watch. Clark is right. Jordan doesn’t know jack shit about love. And I do like the resolution to wait a year and then revisit it.
Jonathan: Is it believable that a good kid like Jon would turn to harmful drugs? Like how does this kid not have Clark and Lois in his head. Is he That desperate to have a HS football career? Eh.
John Henry and Natalie: Natalie being mad at her dad for helping Superman is a big nothing burger. Especially because it was a fake out where she DID want to help upgrade the suit.
Bizarro: Ok the big reveal. Not surprised they swerved us and I’m happy they did. I guess I always prefer sympathetic Bizarro (not evil or comical) but this could still go that way. I like that they used elements of Doomsday to tease it but have it be Bizarro. The show has done a great job with using aspects of the mythos but not just giving us exactly what’s in the comics. Let’s see where this goes. The fight Superman and Covered up Bizarro had was straight up Injustice/Mortal Kombat
