EP291 Kenneth Made Me Cry | Kenneth Ginlack Snr
Today's guest is Kenneth Ginlack, his story literally made my eyes well with tears... Tears of empathy and tears of pride.
One moment, an early teen with a pistol in one hand and a pipe in the other... One moment a murder suspect (still a teen), committed by his friend... One moment desperate, helpless, hopeless and lost... Kenneth was one fleeting moment from making a decision that would have changed his life forever... death, murder or prison.
This conversation brought me closer than I've ever been to even beginning to understand what that set of life circumstances might feel like. But Kenneth got himself a degree in Human Services, then a Bachelors, then a Masters. All those things he thought he could never be. Those things were for people who weren't like him, from places he wasn't from. Now appointed Director of multiple Outpatient Programs as a Psychotherapist and CEO of Serenity Inns, an organisation for addiction recovery. Kenneth is the first Black man to hold these positions in such organisations.I can't wait to share this episode.
This conversation was like watching a Netflix movie that I had to keep reminding myself was real life. We forget how privileged we are. We forget how different the world is for those who aren't living in ours. We forget how powerful people can be when they are shown compassion, love and an even playing field.
