Episode 30: Aaron Ritter LIMB-itless Outdoors Part 1
Aaron Ritter has lived a lot of life in his 49 years and by all accounts, probably shouldn't be here. A Navy Veteran and lifetime outdoor enthusiast, he could have left this world much sooner but God had other plans. Surviving a near fatal motorcycle accident that resulted in the loss of his lower leg, Aaron's life was forever changed on the night of February 12th, 2011. On leave and unable to travel home for his parents 40th wedding anniversary, he was thrown from his Harley and found himself lying in a field staring up at the stars, unsure if he would make it. Never losing consciousness and with his friend applying a tourniquet to his leg, Aaron called his father to tell him about the situation and that he loved him. Nothing short of a miracle and after extensive rehabilitation, he resumed serving our country, ran marathons and returned to the outdoors. But the battle was far from over.
Suffering from PTSD, struggling with alcohol and moving from one relationship to the next, Aaron contemplated ending it all but was saved by his new four legged companion, a chocolate lab named Sig. Now remarried and in a much better place, Ritter has finally found his purpose. Using his amputation as a platform along with his talent for writing and passion for hunting, he started Limb-itless Outdoors as a means to encourage others like him to find new life.
His latest project, the Limb-itless Outdoors Annual Amputee Archery Grant Program (A3G) was designed to get an amputee into a full archery set-up, free of charge. Aaron will personally meet the recipient at an archery shop in their area and present the bow to the winner. Applications are open to anyone who has lost a limb with an interest in getting into archery. To apply, visit his website at www.limbitlessoutdoors.com for more details.
Honest, well spoken and driven, Aaron Ritter is on a mission to change people's lives one word, one arrow and one step at a time. Here at HHAUSA, we are blessed to be a part of his mission and are excited to see what the future holds for this amazing man and his worthy cause.
