The only thing MORE important than what goals you're setting is HOW you're setting them. In this 3 part series on goal setting, we go over how to set realistic goals, and how to subsequently execute on the RIGHT ones. I was taught this by my business coach, friend, and mentor Mathew Park, and now I want to pass his wisdom on to you.
7) Negativity Check - Goals can be negative if they are too big. If a goal is out of reach, that’s one thing. But if it’s out of sight, that’s something else. The difference between me having half a million followers on IG or actually being as big as Tony Robbins.
8) Ask 5 questions - Of the goals that remain, ask yourself the following 5 questions:
Is this really my goal?
Is this goal morally right and fair to everyone concerned?
Will this goal take me closer to or further from my major objective?
Can I emotionally commit myself to start and finish this project?
Can I see myself reach this goal?
9) Choose your top goal - Work your list down to just 4 goals of what you want to do, be, and have. Take inventory of where you are right now. Write down the goal + the date.
What are the benefits of reaching the goal?
What are the obstacles and mountains you have to overcome to reach it?
What other skills and knowledge are required to reach the goal?
Who are the individuals, groups, companies, and organizations needed to work with to reach the goal?
What is the plan of action to reach the goal (nitty gritty)
