Episode 66: An Unearthly Child

Siskoid, Joe Dredd, and Ashford discuss Straight Outta Gallifrey's first episode about the Doctor's granddaughter, Susan.  This first serial where we see Susan attending Coal Hill High School in 1963 London is quite fascinating.  Two concerned teachers, Barbara and Ian, investigate Susan, who is "ahead of her time" in some areas of study, and totally off in others, follow her home to a junkyard.  Quite stunned by the fact that she enters a police box, they are accosted by the Doctor.  And this is when our adventure begins.

Waris Hussein did a superlative job of directing this new challenge of television, inserting flashbacks and all.  The mysterious figure, known only as the Doctor, played by William Hartnell, really came across as a Mad Man. As a kid, I don't know how long it would have taken me to trust him.
