412 I Will Keep You And Make You, A Guided Christian Meditation on Isaiah 42:5-7 with the Recenter With Christ app
I'm Chaplain Jared and I work as a hospice chaplain and an ICU chaplain. My purpose in making this podcast is to help you find more peace in your life and to be more open for your heart to be changed by the Spirit of God. By using centuries old form of Christian Meditation named Lectio Divina:
Outline: Relaxation, Reading, Meditation, Prayer, Contemplation and Visualization.
Get into a place where you can sit comfortably and uninterrupted for about 20 minutes. You should hopefully not be driving or anything tensing or unrelaxing. If you feel comfortable to do so, I invite you to close your eyes.
Guided Relaxation / Guided Meditation:
Breathe and direct your thoughts to connecting with God. Let your stomach be a balloon inflate, deflate.
Bible verses for Meditation:
Isaiah 42
NIV
5 This is what God the Lord says—
the Creator of the heavens, who stretches them out,
who spreads out the earth with all that springs from it,
who gives breath to its people,
and life to those who walk on it:
6 “I, the Lord, have called you in righteousness;
I will take hold of your hand.
I will keep you and will make you
to be a covenant for the people
and a light for the Gentiles,
7 to open eyes that are blind,
to free captives from prison
and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness.
NRSV
5 Thus says God, the Lord,
who created the heavens and stretched them out,
who spread out the earth and what comes from it,
who gives breath to the people upon it
and spirit to those who walk in it:
6 I am the Lord, I have called you in righteousness,
I have taken you by the hand and kept you;
I have given you as a covenant to the people,[a]
a light to the nations,
7 to open the eyes that are blind,
to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon,
from the prison those who sit in darkness.
Meditation on Scripture:
This is part of one of the Servant Songs. There are 4 such servant songs in Isaiah that point to the future role of Jesus Christ. How beautiful is this idea. The creator of heaven stretches out to us. Although he is the one that breathed life into us the very breath of life, he also reaches out to us. His breath gives us life and his spirit supports our life. As you breathe in, embrace that breath as the breath of life. When you feel encouragement of spirit and peace, embrace the spirit that God has put into you.
God takes us by the hand. He is willing to walk beside us even in the worst of times. A great challenge in life, probably one of the hardest struggles is to truly feel that God takes our hand even in the midst of struggle and suffering. Inevitably our lives will struggle. Each one of us will have times of sadness perhaps even profound sadness yet God is willing to hold our hand through it all.
As God walks with us hand in hand he brings light. At the beginning of the Gospel of John it equates God as the bringer of light and synonymous with the light. As God comes into our life he chases out darkness. God’s role of Savior, is the deliverer of us from darkness and the inevitable prison that is the consequences of our sin. We do not need to live in darkness. He can deliver us from all of that.
Meditation of Prayer:
Pray as directed by the Spirit.
Dedicate these moments to the patient waiting, when you feel ready ask God for understanding you desire from Him.
Meditation of God and His Glory / Hesychasm:
I invite you to sit in silence feeling patient for your own faults and trials.
Summarize what insights you have gained during this meditation and meditate and visualize positive change in your life:
