In this week's podcast Coach Bu talks to Brandon Helmick, a father who stepped up to the plate at a moment's notice. Brandon speaks about how in the depths of his addiction he found out he was a father and his son was abandoned at the hospital right after birth. He recognized the need to sober up and be a dad for this innocent baby boy. Brandon wrote,
"This kid saved my life! Here I am 4 years clean from crack and heroin. I was an active user who lived in my car. Got a call one day that a woman gave birth to a son and left him at the hospital and I was the alleged father. She was also an addict so he was born addicted to heroin. I went to see him at the hospital and I just knew he was mine and he was all alone. I got to hold him. While I was holding him the nurse said he was starting to withdraw and it was time for his morphine. That moment changed my life because for once I wasn’t just hurting myself I was hurting an innocent child who depended on me. Long story short I got clean, did what I had to with children's services, and got full custody. Here is us now and I thank God. This kid saved my life.” Thank you for sharing your inspirational story Brandon Helmick.
