Hi pals!
After our live ep last week we're back with some pop culture analysing. First up, ultra-fast fashion brand Pretty Little Thing (creatively directed by Molly-Mae Hague) held an unofficial runway during London Fashion Week. Slow fashion campaigners Venetia La Manna and Mayisha from Oh So Ethical, organised a protest for the rights of garment workers and the environment. We read from Venetia's column for The Independent, I staged a protest against the Pretty Little Thing fashion show. This is why.
Next, Kanye West has spent the last week harassing his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian. We dissect the evolution of the Instagram posting and ask why Kanye gets a pass for being the "manic genius". We read from two pieces. An opinion piece by Arwa Mahdawi titled Whatever’s happening with Kanye and Kim, his behavior shouldn’t be normalized and an article in The Swaddle by titled Kanye West Harassing Kim Kardashian Is No Laughing Matter.
After that we get into Julia Fox AKA Miss Uncut Jems. We discuss her It Girl energy and reference a piece by Hunter Harris titled Julia Fox Is Her Own Muse, Thank You Very Much for The Cut. This sparks a convo around the "new It Girls". Are they mysterious or is this simply another iteration of the "Jennifer Lawrence pipeline" in action?
For recommendations, Jas recommends another Cut piece titled Why Couldn’t Anyone Cancel Dolce & Gabanna by Tahirah Hairston while Maggie reads an essay by Michael Sun titled I Will Be The Most Esoteric Person On The Bus.
