Walter Lucken IV is Assistant Director of Composition at Wayne State University, where he is a PhD candidate studying Rhetoric and Writing. His research focuses on abolitionist histories and historiographies of literacy and rhetorical education in the Americas, especially in the fields of basic writing and community literacy. In addition to his work at Wayne State, he co-facilitates the Writer’s Block writing workshop at the Macomb Men’s Correctional Facility, and recently co-edited Absent but Present: Voices from the Writer’s Block, a collection of poetry from writers incarcerated at Macomb CF. His writing has appeared in Runner, ROAR, Michigan Quarterly Review, Art & The Public Sphere, and Freedom Arts Journal. He lives in Detroit.
