3/4: Russian troops in Ukraine seize Europe's largest nuclear plant. The U.S. announces new sanctions and Ukraine's president calls for talks.
Fears of a possible nuclear disaster in Ukraine are easing, after a Russian attack started a fire at Europe's largest nuclear power facility that supplies more than one-fifth of the country's electricity. The fire is now out, and the U.N. Atomic Energy Agency says there is no radiation leak at the plant in southeastern Ukraine. Russian forces throughout the country are pushing harder to take control of major cities. The U.N. says more than one million refugees have fled Ukraine in just one week, and that number is growing fast. The Biden administration is offering temporary protection for Ukrainian refugees in the U.S., letting them stay up to 18 months. This morning, Russian lawmakers passed a law introducing jail terms for anyone who publishes so-called fake information about the country's armed forces. The Biden administration is tightening the economic screws on Russian president Vladimir Putin and his billionaire allies with a new round of sanctions. Authorities in Europe have already seized at least two super yachts owned by Russian oligarchs. President Biden now faces pressure to target Russia's oil industry. Florida's legislature has passed a bill to ban most abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy -- similar to a Mississippi law that's now before the Supreme Court. The only officer charged in the botched police raid that killed Breonna Taylor is found not guilty.
