Episode 18: The Hybrid Cloud Forecast Outlook: Cloud Security
In this episode of the Hybrid Cloud Forecast series, Andre talks to Nataraj Nagaratnam, IBM Fellow, CTO of IBM Cloud Security. Andre begins by asking how to approach security and Raj explains that it starts by identifying the risks that need to be mitigated which then drives the security policies, controls, processes, and technologies that are required. Andre and Raj discuss the importance of DevSecOps and how it is changing the fundamental thinking of security as a forethought instead of an afterthought. They discuss how the recent Log4j vulnerability elevated the topic of supply chain security, as it's not enough to secure what you build, but now also you need to consider what dependencies you consume. Raj provides an example of a specialized security technology, Hyper Protect Crypto Services, included with IBM Cloud for Financial Services. He explains how built-in controls in this Cloud enable customers to focus on innovating their business and building new applications. Andre asks Raj to explain how to address the large number of standards and compliance requirements across industries and geographies, which leads to a discussion about how to make compliance as code. Raj concludes by explaining that data security and privacy are pushing the boundaries, especially as we expand into hybrid cloud, and that the company that's going to innovate and lead is going to pave the way for more secure and private environments.
